Blunt Headed Snake

Snake or Just A branch of a Tree?

The Blunt Headed Snake (Imantodes cenchoa)
Blunt-Headed Snake. Their name doesn’t betray the fact that this is a weird creature that can live its life in trees. They may be uninteresting in terms of appearance, but these arboreal entitles have a lot to surprise the fans with their numerous adaptations.

Many of their bodies are long and streamlined like vines. This allows them to zip through the tangle of branches and leaves without facing any trouble. Nonetheless, the actual actor which attracts all the attention is their head, as the word suggests. She's blunt and brief leaving very little space but giving you an opportunity to get caught quickly.

They are predominantly nighttime feeders like these snakes. By the time the sun goes down, they emerge, their big, vertical pupil tardies seeking for the next prey. Their diet?Mainly frogs and amphibians, the creatures overpowering them using a special way of injecting the venom. If compared to vipers and cobras which have venom-injecting teeth at the front, Blunt-headed Snakes possess their poison-injecting teeth at a location that is further back. These predators latch on to their prey and chomp it, letting their venom get infused and making the victim helpless.

Their venom won't affect us humans as we are immune against it. The reason that these snakes are out there is to catch some frogs instead of bothering other creatures. They are usually gentle animals and leave the scene in case of confrontations by slithering silently.

Its habitat is one more interesting feature to note. Blunt-headed Snakes are most comfortable in the rich rainforests of Central and South America, where they spend their entire life around leaves and branches. Perhaps you will chance upon them during the day lazing in the bromeliads, those rainbow hued water holes that grow on trees. At night they refer to themselves as hunters and master their sharp senses to do their hunting even in this complex world of dense jungle canopy.

The Blunt-headed Snake offers a glimpse into the world where a narrow body, an unfriendly head, and the fangs at the end of the tail are the secrets to a successful life in a unique environment. Thus, the next time if you hear about a Blunt-headed Snake, you should not ignore it as only a name but rather, as the an outstanding slithering wonder of all times. It's a little window into a realm of incredible creations that happened billions of years ago. These creations include: a slender body, a blunt head, and rear fangs becoming the three most needed features for a planting tree and living happily above the forest ground.
